There was a time when SEO was not thoroughly monitored by search engine. It was the time when backlinks were purchased for the blog, which increases the site visibility and its ranking. Many bloggers used this black hat SEO tactic at large level to boost up the blog income. This search engine marketing was only implacable in early of 2000.
Soon Google realized this manipulative fact. When Google observed that blogs having low quality of content manipulate the search engine ranking through Un-natural way, it launched Penguin to identify the purchased backlinks. The main problem was discrimination between low quality content blogs and high quality content blogs.
Purchasing of backlinks for your site, means low quality counterfeit on the well-built blogs having high quality content. That’s why Google launched Penguin to point out such black hat SEO tactics and to protect the unique quality of content.
Those bloggers which worked hard, created high quality content and get backlinks through natural ways and socialized the blog, their blog visibility and ranking was consecutively going down. The reason was it takes time to increase the high quality content quantity and getting backlinks through natural and from relevant sites or blogs.
Now those bloggers which were used the paid backlinks, despite having low quality content, their blogs were appeared on top in search engine results. This was a great drawback of search engine to don’t capture such black hat SEO tactics. This situation was continued for more than 10 years. It is no doubt that in earlier 5 years of 21st century, Google analytics were not able to capture such dark techniques.
What are Site Wide Links?
Site Wide backlinks are not poles apart things from the links which we get on our site in form of backlinks. They have very constructive impact and leave a productive impression on blog because they led to increase the visibility of blog in search engine. But if you these use in negative, they decrease the visibility of blog.
In Google updates 2017, many popular and well ranked sites like Quickonlinetips were penalized for getting site wide backlinks through un-natural ways and from irrelevant sources. This also enforced many bloggers to conclude their site wide backlinks that it has negative impacts on search engine. It decreases the blog visibility and ranking in search engine.
How Site Wide Backlinks Impact on SEO of Blog?
There are numerous strategies to get free backlinks for your blog but here it would be irrelevant to discuss it. We have to see that how site wide backlinks impact SEO of the blog.
It is very simple. If you get site wide backlinks from relevant and natural ways, it would positively impact your site. But if you get paid backlinks or from irrelevant sources, it would negatively impact your Blog’s SEO.
Let’s understand what irrelevant or relevant sources are or natural or un-natural ways?
Relevant Sources to Get Backlinks:
Suppose your blog is about “blogging, SEO, social media, make money online and blogging tools”. Now you get a backlinks for your blog from another blog like bloggertips.com, bloggerspassion.com, Darren Rowse’s blog blog of Neil Patel and such like other blogs which have the same niche, then all these sources are relevant and natural. They all have the same niche as you.
Irrelevant Sources to Get Backlinks:
If your blog get backlinks from irrelevant domains like insurance sites, Forex trading sites, property sites, auto and care sites etc all these sources are irrelevant and un-natural.
This is because our your blog is about SEO, make money online, social media and blogging tools, while the sources from where you getting backlinks are totally different. They are about insurance companies, Forex trading, vehicle business and sites about sale and purchase of property.
So there is no relevancy between your blog and these sites. That’s why these sources are irrelevant and un-natural. If you will get backlinks from these sources, your blog visibility will be negatively affected.
How Does Google Consider Site-Wide Backlinks?
How does Google consider site-wide backlinks? In response, Matt Cutts from Google briefly describe regarding Google behavior about site-wide backlinks.
Matt Cutts discussion is as under:
“Are sitewide links effective for SEO?”
“Are site-wide backlinks considered good or bad by Google? Or do they just count as 1 link from the whole domain?”
That’s an excellent question.
Let’s tackle it from both the algorithmic standpoint and from the manual standpoint.
On the algorithmic standpoint:
Typically I’ve said before that if we have keywords, the first the keyword counts some, the next keyword counts a little bit but not as much, the 3rd keyword not as much. So even if you do keyword stuffing and even if you throw a ton of keywords, at some point it becomes an asymptotically diminishing return and it doesn’t really help you anymore.
You can imagine the same sort of things, you know, if we see a link from a domain, we might count it once but if we see 50 links from a domain we still might choose to count only once.
So on an algorithmic side we do a pretty good job of compressing those links together.
But then there’s also a manual side:
So imagine that you have a Polish website and then you see a site-wide link in English talking about “rent cheap apartments”. You know, to a regular person that looks pretty bad.
Certainly it does happen that you have site-wide links—maybe have a blog roll or something like that—but if I were a manual web spam analyst who was sort of doing an investigation and got a spam report that in your English site you’ve got a site wide Polish link that looks commercial, off-topic, of low quality, or spammy, then that can affect the assessment on whether we want to trust the outgoing links from that site.
Site-wide links do happen—it’s completely natural, you might have a privacy policy, copyright policy, all that sort of stuff. But when we see sort of irrelevant, off-topic links, or even spammy links, site-wide, then that’s the sort of thing that does make a spam fighter’s ears sort of perk up a little bit.
I think we handle it very well on the algorithmic side but, you know, we do manual investigations as well.
Ball is in Your Court:
